Black & Decker has made several improvements to the latest LH5000 Leaf Hog. For starters, instead of a plastic impeller, they have replaced it with a metal one. This should help make the blower last longer and less likely to need repair.
In addition to the metal impeller, the LH5000 features a variable speed blower control. If you’ve ever blown leaves before you should know that sometimes you need full force blowing on heavy, damp leaves. Other times around flower beds and small piles of leaves, light blowing will do the trick.
The other improvement (at least in the eyes of most people) is eliminating the zipper bag. Instead, Black & Decker has replaced it with a plastic slide. Most people prefer this arrangement, while others preferred the ease of the zipper. The plastic slide does have a better chance of holding up over time.
The LH5000 is an electric blower, so if you don’t own a long, heavy-duty extension cord you will need to purchase one. Black and Decker also offers a Leaf Collection System for under $30 that you can hook up to the Leaf Hog. This will allow you to vacuum leaves straight into a trash can, bypassing the need for the smaller bag.
